On December 12, 2019, Dr. Yervant Zorian paid a curtesy visit to the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy of Kolkata. Dr. Zorian, Central Board member of Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the largest Diaspora organisation was welcomed by Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan, Mr. Sunil Sobti and Mr. Never Sargsyan. During the meeting they discussed about the Armenian college and churches as well as Armenian community in India. Dr. Zorian was pleased to learn about community initiatives and college’s vision to become one of the prominent and advanced educational institutions in India and in the larger SAARC region. The guest of honor has been provided with a briefing about the college’s future plans and efforts to achieve excellence in provision of quality education. Possible further cooperation opportunities were discussed particularly establishing links between the Armenian College of Kolkata and Armenian Virtual College (AVC) of AGBU – an online education platform to provide knowledge in the Armenian Studies for anyone in any point of the world.
Within the framework of the visit Dr. Zorian had a spontaneous meeting with senior students of the Armenian College. While Dr. Zorian told his inspirational story about how he managed to promote growth from a start-up to a corporation, the students had a chance to ask questions to Dr. Zorian. The message of Dr. Zorian was: “To think of a goal in life and be passionate about it”.
A tour in the premises of the college were arranged after which Dr. Zorian expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the impressive work that the College is engaged in protecting Armenian identity, community in India as well promoting Armenian culture. He noted the significant positive changes in comparison with his visit in 2005.
Dr. Zorian is a Chief Architect and Fellow at Synopsys, as well as President of Synopsys Armenia. He received an MS degree in Computer Engineering from University of Southern California, a PhD in Electrical Engineering from McGill University, and an MBA from Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
